Zero tolerance for alcohol on the construction site: one moment can cost a life

SAY NO TO ALCOHOL ON SITE is a campaign launched by RCBB Gruppe to promote responsibility, safety, and mutual respect among our construction teams.

One of the most serious risks to occupational health and safety remains the consumption of alcohol before or during working hours. This seemingly harmless habit can have devastating consequences — both for the person who drinks and for their colleagues.

Why is alcohol a real threat on a construction site?

Unlike an office, a construction site is an environment where the risk of accidents is constant. We work with heavy machinery, at heights, with concrete, steel, electricity, and often in difficult weather conditions. In this context, even a slight decrease in reaction ability can lead to tragedy.

Alcohol consumption affects:

This seemingly harmless habit can have devastating consequences — not only for the person consuming alcohol, but also for their colleagues, employer, clients, and most seriously, their loved ones.

What can happen when someone consumes alcohol on site?

  1. Serious accidents caused by lack of coordination
Alcohol quickly affects reflexes, balance, and risk perception. On construction sites, where we deal with heavy equipment, heights, electricity, and dangerous materials, even a moment of inattention can lead to fatal or disabling accidents. A misstep on a ladder, careless equipment handling, or a single impulsive decision can have irreversible consequences.
  2. Compromised team safety
Teamwork requires trust. If a colleague consumes alcohol and loses their ability to react or think clearly, the entire team is at risk. A falling object from a crane, an improperly assembled platform, or a faulty weld can endanger the lives of everyone nearby.
  3. Pain for the family
The ones most affected by a serious accident are not only those directly involved. The families of the injured or deceased carry the burden of a tragedy that could have been avoided. Children lose parents, spouses lose partners, parents lose sons or daughters.
  4. Decreased work quality
Alcohol affects not just the body, but also the mind: it reduces concentration, analytical ability, and attention to technical details. This results in faulty execution, costly mistakes, rework, delays, and loss of credibility with partners and clients.
  5. Legal and contractual sanctions
Alcohol consumption at the workplace is prohibited by law. Employees caught under the influence may face disciplinary action, lose their jobs, and even face criminal liability if they cause material damage or injury. Companies can also face fines and contract termination.

Alcohol and construction sites DO NOT go hand in hand

At RCBB Gruppe, we want all our colleagues to get home safely every day. We do not accept any form of tolerance for alcohol consumption during or before working hours. The “ANTI-ALCOHOL ON SITE” campaign is a sincere call for awareness and responsibility.

This is not just about rules. It’s about life, safety, and respect.

What can YOU do?

This is about the courage to say “NO”

Say NO to alcohol on site.
Say YES to health and responsibility.
